Why it’s Important to Have In-House Tool-Makers and Engineers.

Driving around Connecticut you may notice there are a lot of manufacturing shops that specialize in making die sets for machines like fourslide and power press. This allows many metal stamping suppliers in the area to not have any in-house tool design or engineers as they can outsource all of the work to another company. These companies not only would build all the tooling for your machine, but they also offer engineering advice as well.

So why do some companies keep Tool-Makers and Engineers in-house?

Toolmaker Inspection photoOne major benefit is quality assurance. Having all our Tool-Makers and Engineers in-house allow for a consist quality check of parts throughout the entire process. From the moment you submit your drawing to us to the moment you receive your final production parts, there were at least 3 different Engineers and Tool-Makers checking the quality of your part.

Another major benefit is time. Having Engineers check each part at each stage of production allows for a more timely process. We catch errors and quality issues early which allows less waste and less time trying to fix issues once they do arise. We don’t have to send tools back to outside Tool-Makers when they break in the machines, we fix them in-house immediately.

Lastly, and probably one of the most important factors to our customers, is the cost savings. Like I mentioned with time, the less waste and more efficient fix times allow us to pass those cost savings on to each of our customers. Gemco engineers each part to utilize the material the most efficiently, which eliminates waste while making the part, as well as limiting wasted material on making bad parts.

So next time you’re looking for a metal stamping supplier make sure they have in-house Engineers and Tool Makers, it will help with your quality, time, and bottom line!
